Understanding how to build commercial showers for maximum privacy will result in the better construction of new shower rooms. Commercial restrooms can also be remodeled with this knowledge so that shower facilities can be integrated into existing facilities in buildings that lack the space to create separate shower rooms. The key to doing is found in selecting the right shower dividers and front coverings to ensure full privacy to each user without wasting a single square foot.
The first thing to fix firmly in the mind is the realization that the best shower dividers are actually modified restroom partitions. The same basic principles used in building restroom stalls are used to build individual shower stalls. Bathroom partitions have all the basic attributes necessary for building durable, water resistant enclosures. However, they require certain modifications to create a sealed off enclosure that ensures the privacy and comfort for each individual user.
To create maximum privacy, commercial shower stalls must be built with higher partition panels and doors. Standard toilet partitions measure only 52” in height. When mounted with 80” pilasters in an overhead braced configuration, they leave a 12” gap between their bottom edge and the floor. Even in a discreet environment, the average person will feel uncomfortable with this much potential visibility into his or her personal space. This discomfort will discourage many people from using a commercial shower even in an environment where it is necessary for personal health and safety.
Shower stalls should be built with special made partitions that measure 72” in height. This will close the gap between the panel and the floor. The user will feel completely shielded within the enclosure and consequently be more willing to shower in a public facility. If stalls are built with shower curtains, the curtains can easily be cut to fall all the way to the floor. However, in many public restrooms a typical user will normally want more than a shower curtain between themselves and other restroom users.
For this reason, commercial shower stalls that are built with doors offer users the greatest sense of personal security while showering at a gym, a public recreational facility, or at their particular place of employment. Door should measure the same height as partition panels in order to eliminate what would otherwise be a 12” gap between the floor and the front of the stall. This leaves us with only one privacy concern left to overcome. Line of site, a term which refers to the visible gap between a closed partition door and adjoining panel, must be completely eliminated for the user to feel truly shut off from the outside world while inside the stall.
Fortunately, eliminating this worrisome gap is now easier than ever with no-site restroom partitions modified to work as shower dividers. No-site design creates a commercial shower stall that seamlessly closes the shower door flush to the partition panel. The best thing about building a stall like this is the ease with which it can be assembled. No-site partition hardware is manufactured especially for the creation of shower and restroom enclosures that fully block visibility into the interiors of these structures.
