Mailboxes for high rises and mid rises must be USPS approved and should be located on the first floor of the building. They are manufactured from aluminum and are either horizontal or vertical by design. Horizontal mailboxes can be either front loading or rear loading. Rotary mail boxes reside within a cabinet so mail carriers can rotate them 180 degrees for loading. Vertical mail boxes offer more box space and front loading capacity for smaller buildings.
Horizontal mailboxes are the most common models chosen for building mail centers in larger high rises. They are compact and easy to configure in a variety of arrays. Units can be built with front loading doors or rear loading doors if a separate mail room exists behind the wall. For every 10 tenant compartments, the mail center is configured with 1 parcel locker. Mail boxes are typically made from aluminum, although they can also be ordered in stainless steel. Doors secure with a heavy duty cam lock that includes a dust shield and 3 keys. Configuration options include custom engraved doors, both regular and engraved, custom engraved placards, replacement and extra keys for building security.
Rotary mailboxes represent a viable option for many midrise and high rise buildings that are undergoing a remodel. The advantage they offer is the ability to build a free standing mail center in an enclosure anywhere in the building. Typically this is done in smaller buildings where wall space may be limited, or where it simply isn’t feasible for whatever reason to build a mail center into the wall. Rotary mail centers are basically composed of horizontal mail boxes that are contained within a special cabinet located somewhere on the first floor. Mail carriers rotate the entire array 180 degrees so that the boxes can be conveniently loaded from the rear. Rotary centers are ideal for creating a secure, professional mail system for a recently upgraded older building. Up to 5 parcel lockers, drop boxes, data distribution system boxes, or aluminum rack ladder system mail boxes can be installed in the array. Units are made form 16 gauge steel. A matching rear cover can also be ordered to fit over the back of the units.
Still another mail center option for high rises and midrise buildings is a center composed of vertical mailboxes. Often used in small outdoor apartment buildings, these elegant mail units also work equally well in luxury indoor environments. Vertical boxes offer a larger compartment to mail carriers so larger envelops and magazines do not have to be folded to the degree they normally are when fitted to smaller horizontal units. They are also very easy to access because they are front loading by design and swing outward to allow easy mail drop and easy mail delivery. Because vertical units are noticeably larger, they are best suited to buildings that either have exceptional wall space or smaller buildings with a limited number of dwellings. Both surface mounted and recessed mounted options are available to accommodate remodels or new constructions. Placards, replacement locks, and extra keys are examples of additional options.
