Return Locks and Coin Retain Locks are several of the latest
innovations used to increase customer usage of temporary storage lockers in a
variety of industries. Temporary storage lockers are constructed in all sizes
and a variety of materials but they all have the same basic purpose. Any device,
such as these innovative locks, that can increase usage and turnover is
welcome.
Some Coin Return Locks and
Coin Retain Locks are designed for wet and humid areas. They are built from corrosion resistant
materials for durability and enhanced product life. Common wet and humid areas
would be indoor swimming pools, saunas, shower areas in gyms and spas, and
outdoor swimming pools. These locks will usually accept a wide variety of coin
denominations and some will have an option to accept operation by a plastic
card. Another common feature is a
removable cylinder option, which allows for lock cylinder replacement rather
than replacement of the entire lock. This option is useful when there is a lost
or stolen key.
Other types of
Coin
Return Locks and Coin Retain Locks are designed for dry areas. Examples of
these areas would be leisure centers, schools, factories, supermarkets, and
sports clubs. These locks would
also accept a wide variety of coin denominations and some will have an option to
accept operation by a plastic card. The removable cylinder option is also
available and very useful in the event of a lost or stolen key.
The Coin Return
Lock offered with the Lenox line of lockers is called the Safe-O-Mat and it
replaces the standard hasp. The locks are located inside the locker door and are
available in a 25 cent denomination for the United
States market or token denominations for both the
United
States and international markets. These locks
require the user to insert a coin to secure the locker with a key. The coin is returned when the user opens
the locker door with the key. Usually number tags for keys, tokens, master keys,
and extra cylinders are ordered separately.
The Coin Retain
Lock offered with the Lenox line of lockers also uses the Safe-O-Mat name. It
replaces the standard hasp and is located inside the locker door. It is available in 25 and 50 cent
denominations for the United
States market or one and two token denominations for both
the United
States and international markets. Tokens,
master keys, number tags, and extra cylinders must be ordered
separately.
Commercial
buyers should consider the type of cylinder before purchasing Coin Return Locks or
Coin Retain Locks. The two
choices are fixed and removable cylinders.
Generally these locks are available in 19 or 29 millimeter lengths
and the cylinder length should suit the locker door thickness. Usually fixed
cylinders are available in both lengths mentioned earlier. However, removable
cylinders are usually available in 29 millimeter lengths only. The removable cylinders have a distinct
advantage when the key is lost. In
this case, only the cylinder needs to be replaced rather than the whole lock.
This is both faster and cheaper than replacing the whole lock and therefore
removable cylinders are recommended when key lost is a frequent
problem.
