In most high school and middle school locker rooms,
athletic clothes and towels often remain in the locker unwashed for up to a week
at a time. Athletic gym lockers
with vented doors allow free circulation of air to dry out these
fabrics. Vented wire mesh lockers
are less expensive than all welded metal models and plastic models with vented
doors.
Metal athletic
gym lockers are constructed from 16 gauge steel. They are ideal for dressing rooms,
employee storage, private club locker rooms, and fitness clubs. Organizations can choose between six
models.
1.
Single tier lockers feature one vertical compartment
that can hold athletic equipment such as hockey sticks or baseball bats as well
as clothing. Teams that require
heavy gear, like football, or special equipment, such as hockey or baseball,
would use this style.
2.
Double tier lockers feature a divided vertical
compartment, with each division functioning as an individual locker space. This style is popular with tennis teams
and swim teams.
3.
Six tier box style features a total of six individual,
box-like locker spaces per each vertical column. This is the athletic gym locker most
commonly used by general physical education classes in middle schools and high
schools.
4.
Extra wide single tier lockers are 25 percent wider than
their standard counterparts. They are ideal for football and rugby teams, and
they can also be used in workplaces.
5.
Extra wide double tier lockers are 25 percent wider than
their standard counterparts. They
provide spacious storage for athletes in single player sports, and they are also
used in the construction industry.
6.
Extra wide triple tier lockers are 25 percent larger
than box tier counterparts, but only have three individual locker spaces instead
of six. This makes them the perfect size for storing a
basketball or a soccer ball.
Metal
athletic gym lockers can also accommodate several options as follows:
·
Sloping hoods prevent students from
hiding things on the tops of lockers, and they are easier for cleaning staff to
access.
·
End bases go on the side bottoms of
lockers and create a more polished appearance.
·
Front bases go on the front bottoms
of lockers to present a more attractive façade.
·
Fillers are needed when lockers
encounter obstructions such as pipes or columns. The filler is the same dimension as the
two adjacent lockers, but is hollow inside to accommodate the instruction. Fillers are available for both flat top
lockers and slope top lockers.
Each of the six different models of athletic gym lockers offers
multiple security options. The
first is a simple latch. It will
accommodate a hanging combination lock that is brought from home by the
student. It is less expensive, but
if the student forgets his or her combination, the lock has to be cut off. Also, students can also hide things in
their lockers beyond the reach of administration simply be swapping out a
lock.
Due to
an increased need for supervision and security in our schools, most districts
are buying lockers with built-in combination locks or key locks that give
administration or authorities access to the locker in the event of reasonable
cause for a search.
